Tips for Handling Food After a Power Outage:-
Thawing Frozen Items:
- Thaw frozen meat, poultry, fish, or seafood in the refrigerator or cold water, then cook immediately.
Soft and Hard Cheeses:
- Discard soft cheeses left above 40°F for more than 2 hours.
- Hard and processed cheeses remain safe to eat after the same duration.
Dairy Products:
- Discard dairy products like milk, cream, buttermilk, evaporated milk, and yogurt if stored above 40°F for over 2 hours.
- Butter is still safe to use within the same timeframe.
Baby Formula and Dried Fruits:
- Discard opened baby formula exposed to temperatures above 40°F for more than 2 hours.
- Dried fruits, raisins, candied fruits, and dates are safe to consume after the same duration.
Bread, Rolls, and Cakes:
- These items are safe if stored above 40°F for no more than 2 hours.
- Cooked pasta, rice, and potatoes should be discarded if exposed to temperatures above 40°F for over 2 hours.
Cut and Uncut Vegetables:
- Cut vegetables may need to be discarded if left above 40°F for more than 2 hours.
- Uncut vegetables remain safe to eat within the same timeframe.
