Signs and Symptoms of Dengue Fever!
Dengue fever presents a range of symptoms that can vary in severity. Common signs and symptoms of dengue fever include:
- High fever, possibly reaching 105°F (40°C)
- Pain behind the eyes, in the joints, muscles, and bones
- Severe headache
- Rash covering most of the body
- Mild bleeding from the nose or gums
- Easy bruising
Symptoms typically appear 4 days to 2 weeks after being bitten by an infected mosquito and can last for 2 to 7 days. Management of mild cases involves staying hydrated, resting, and using pain relievers like acetaminophen.
Severe dengue fever, also known as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS), can be life-threatening. Warning signs of severe dengue often manifest after the fever has subsided and may include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding from gums or nose, fatigue, restlessness, blood in vomit or stool, among others. Immediate medical attention is necessary if these warning signs appear.
