Deaths in Summer

Heatwave is the hot weather of a place where temperature rises 4degree Celcius and above the maximum temperature and remains for over 3 days.

  • The cause of heat waves is particularly the warm air which is being trapped in the atmosphere. Global warming and green house effect are the results of this. Some of the human activities like burning of fossil fuels, use of Air conditioner and refrigerators which releases CFCs( chlorofluorocarbons) , glass buildings etc are also responsible for heat waves.

The harmful effects of heatwaves on human health are :

- Dehydration
- Heatstroke
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Heat cramps
- Heat exhaustion
- Heat rashes

To prevent the harmful effect of heatwaves one can do the following:

- Avoid going out during heat waves
- Drink more fluids
- Have atleast 3 litres of water
- Include salt and sugar in water to stay hydrated
- Don't stay in a compacted room during heatwave
- Keep the atmosphere cool by planting more trees
- Cover your body completely when you go out during heatwave
- Carry ors solutions or energy drinks when going out .

  • Heatwaves can only be prevented by planting more trees. It has been found that the places which have more trees are cooler as compared to those with less number of trees.
