Ayurvedic Cure For Acne
In Ayurveda, there are two main types of treatment for acne:
Shodhana Chikitsa(purification treatment): It involves the removal of toxins out of body, which responsible for illness. It include excitation of Doshas in the body and then removing it from the nearest route available. Some main techniques that are used under this are-
Vamana Karma (Vomiting): It is indicated for disorders caused by Kapha Dosha. It include three steps-
First, during the pre-cleanse, dietary adjustments and external oil massages are given. Second, on Vamana Day, a special liquid is given to balance Kapha dosha, along with herbal emetics to induce vomiting and expel toxins. Finally, the post-cleanse phase involves a strict diet plan and plenty of rest.
Nasya Karma (Nasal Drops): Herbal medication like lahsun, Tulsi, Brahmi etc are given through nasal route to help with acne.
Raktamokshana (Bloodletting): Youvan Pidika is related with blood (Rakta) and Pitta imbalances. Bloodletting is recommended to manage it which include removal of some blood out after a complete assessment , which performed by a trained Ayurvedic practitioner.
Shamana Chikitsa (Balancing treatment): It is used to restore or normalize the Doshas in their Sthanas (or location) by using various herbal and mineral compounds, in forms of powders, pastes, oils, or ghee.
The method of application is based on the evaluation of skin eruptions(Outbreak) and may involve washing or (Prakshalana), massaging or (Snehana), or applying pastes (Lepana).
In Snehana, the specific medicated oil used depends on your dosha like: for vata dosha castor oil, sesame oil can be used. Whereas for pitta dosha mostly coconut oil and sunflower oil are used and for kapha dosha Mustard oil, ashwagandha oil can be used.
(Lepa) or paste made from herbs including Vacha, Lodhra, Kusta, Narikel Pushpa(Flower), is recommended, along with oral medications like Guggulu, Triphala ,Vati, etc are given to aid in the healing process
