Why is Nimesulide banned?
The government has banned the paediatric use of the common fever and pain drug nimesulide for its adverse effects on the liver, in a much- delayed move. The decision was taken by the Union health ministry after experts on the Drug Technical Advisory Board recommended banning the drug along with five others.
What is the use of nimesulide tablet?
Nimesulide is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with pain medication and fever reducing properties. Its approved indications are the treatment of acute pain, the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis, and primary dysmenorrhoea in adolescents and adults above 12 years old.
