Summary

  • Paracetamol/Acetaminophen is used to relieve minor aches and pains like arthritis, muscle aches, headaches, and menstrual cramps. It's also effective in reducing fever.

  • Paracetamol/Acetaminophen works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) in the brain, reducing the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals responsible for pain and fever.

  • Adults and children over 12 years can take 2 caplets (650 mg each) every 8 hours, not exceeding 6 caplets (3900 mg) daily. It can be taken orally with or without food.

  • Common side effects of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen are rare but may include nausea, rash or mild gastrointestinal discomfort. Serious side effects like liver damage, kidney impairment can occur with overdose or prolonged use.

  • Avoid exceeding the recommended dose to prevent liver damage. Don't take it with alcohol or if you have severe liver disease. Also, don't take it with other medicines containing acetaminophen or blood thinners like warfarin without medical advice.
