Topitab 50mg Tablet is a medicine used to help treat migraines and control epilepsy. It is given to people with epilepsy to control and prevent seizures (fits) by reducing abnormal uncontrollable electrical activity in the brain cells.

This tablet works by blocking sodium channels in the brain. These channels are like gateways which controls the inflow of electricity in brain cells and blocking them prevents the brain from having abnormal electrical activity, which is what causes seizures.

The side effects include, difficulty falling asleep, loss of coordination, constipation, difficulty in breathing and blistering. It can be taken empty stomach or after food. Ingest the tablet whole; avoid chewing, crushing, or breaking it. Follow your doctor's guidance on how much to take and for how long and strictly adhere to it.

I am taking valproic acid for fits. Will Nutop interfere with the working of valproic acid? Can this combination be taken?

Nutop does not interfere with the working of valproic acid, but it increases the risk of getting excess levels of ammonia in blood (hyperammonemia). Increased levels of ammonia in blood can be dangerous and may cause difficulty in thinking, remembering information or solving problems. It may also decrease your alertness and make you feel very sleepy with low energy. Immediately inform your doctor if you notice these symptoms. It is important to know that, in rare cases, Nutop alone can cause hyperammonemia.
