It acts as a synthetic stimulator that imitates natural signals within the body. It encourages the bone marrow to produce and release more neutrophils, the white blood cells responsible for fighting infections. By increasing neutrophil levels, it enhances the body's immune response, reducing the risk of infections and managing complications associated with low neutrophil counts.

Common side effects may include headache, hair loss, diarrhea, joint pain, injection site pain, back pain, muscle pain, fever, skeletal pain, limb pain, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle, or joint) pain, and neck pain.

It may cause enlargement of the spleen (splenomegaly). Patients should be monitored for symptoms such as left upper abdominal pain or fullness, as this can be a serious complication.
