Arip MT 5 Tablet

Arip MT 5 Tablet 15s is an atypical antipsychotic, that is FDA-approved for managing psychosis in schizophrenia and for treating acute manic episodes in bipolar disorder. It is also used in autism spectrum disorder to reduce irritability and in major depressive disorder and Tourette syndrome as adjunctive therapy. Additionally, its long-acting formulation aids in the maintenance therapy of chronic schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder.

It operates by interacting with neurotransmitters in the brain, specifically dopamine and serotonin receptors. It acts as a partial agonist at D2 and 5HT1a receptors, providing stabilization of these neurotransmitters in critical brain regions. This unique mechanism helps manage positive, negative, and cognitive symptoms associated with various psychiatric conditions.

While aripiprazole shares some side effects with other antipsychotic medications, it is known for having a more favorable profile. Common side effects may include akathisia (restlessness), somnolence (sleepiness), nausea, and lightheadedness. Notably, aripiprazole is associated with a lower risk of weight gain, cholesterol abnormalities, glucose dysregulation, and hyperprolactinemia compared to other antipsychotics.2

Individuals with a known hypersensitivity to aripiprazole or its components should avoid its use. Close monitoring is essential for potential rare adverse effects, including neuroleptic malignant syndrome, liver function abnormalities, seizures, and agranulocytosis. Careful consideration is necessary when prescribing aripiprazole in older adults, as it may contribute to inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) or hyponatremia.

If a dose is missed, it's important not to double up on the next dose. Instead, individuals should take the missed dose as soon as they remember, unless it's close to the time for the next scheduled dose. In such cases, it's advisable to skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule.
